Banarasi Silk Sarees are from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. A Banarasi is to the North what a Kanchipuram is to the South. A popular choice for North Indian brides, they are known for their gold and silver brocade, fine silk and opulent embroidery. Due to their strong Mughal influence, the motifs used are floral and foliate. They also include animals, figures with intricate details and scenes from fairs and villages. Depending on the complexity of the design a handwoven saree can take 15 days to 6 months to complete.
